Summer is nearly over, which means time is running out to get in one last road trip while the weather is nice. The Penguin is always ready for an adventure, so he has some tips to help make your road trip more memorable and relaxing:
- Research hotels for the best price. Travel websites, such as Kayak, Expedia and Hotwire, can help you search for hotels along your route and at your destination. Finding a great deal and placing a reservation before your trip can be much cheaper than trying to find a hotel along the way.
- Properly pack your car. If you have a big car, it can be tempting to haphazardly throw all your luggage, blankets and snacks into the trunk. Plan ahead by keeping essential items, such as a first-aid kit, maps and cell phones in a sturdy bag within easy reach of the front seat. Thanks to our friends at the Travel Channel for this great road trip tip!
- Pack your cooler with dry ice. It’s important to stay hydrated during long drives, but no one likes to drink warm water. A cooler filled with traditional ice will only keep your drinks chilled for a few hours. Dry ice is a great solution to keep your drinks cold for the entire trip. Our Everyday Uses Guide has tips on how to pack your cooler with dry ice. Not sure where to purchase dry ice? Try our Store Locator!
- Be adventurous! Even if you think you’ve seen everything your hometown has to offer, there might be a few cool, hidden gems. Find new places to visit at your state’s division of tourism office or website. This is an excellent resource to help you find information on everything from dining to entertainment options that are within driving distance of your home.
So what are you waiting for? Get your car packed up and hit the road for one last adventure before summer comes to an end!
